Assessment Description - MAP

Northwest Evaluation Association Measures of Academic Progress

Purpose:  The MAP tests are a computerized, adaptive assessment administered in the subject areas of reading and math.  MAP tests are based on a continuum of skills and assist teachers in identifying the instructional level of the student and also provide context for determining where a student is performing in relation to standards and national norms. The MAP assessment is used to:
  • Identify the grade level skills and concepts individual students have learned;
  • Monitor academic growth over time;
  • Provide data for classroom, school, and district decision-making; and
  • Identify students for appropriate instructional programs
