In celebration of writing, District 95 is asking teachers, students, families, and community members to participate in the National Day on Writing on October 20th by devoting time to write and share. In District 95 we will celebrate writing throughout the week of Oct. 15-19.

With the emphasis of the Common Core, writing has a renewed role in K-12 education. Last year in District 95, a new writing curriculum was implemented at the elementary level and in identified high school English classes. This school year, the new writing curriculum is being implemented in middle school language arts classes.

The biggest difference in the writing curriculum is the emphasis on daily writing. The Common Core standards communicate that writing should be occurring throughout the school day and across all content areas.
